A sand bowl made from sand and glue

CHECK THIS OUT: Sand Bowl

I can’t remember where I first read about this sand bowl idea, but it seems like a pretty awesome one. We’re looking to give it a shot.

  • Turn bowl upside down
  • Poor glue/sand mixture onto bowl
  • Let dry

Sounds easy enough–though I have a strange feeling our attempt isn’t going to turn out so well. If anyone gives this a shot send us your results!

Working with what I’ve got at the moment.

Sorry for the lack of updates on the Florida fresh homemade soap page.  Crystal took a spill and ended up fracturing her tailbone, so we paused the handmade soap making for a bit.  Before her spill we recorded our second “learn while we learn” video–and Ive been attempting to edit it using Adobe Premiere, I’ve been having no luck. This machine I’m working on is a bit older and doesn’t quite have the ummph to make editing using Premiere really an option. So I’m heading back to the limited but reliable (on this machine) Windows Movie Maker. If everything goes according to plan our next video should be available on our Youtube channel sometime tonight.

Florida Fresh Handmade Cupcake Soap Piping Idea

Decorate handmade soap cupcakes the same way I can normal ones? Really?

We were looking out into the future a bit and thought about what making neat little handmade cupcake soaps would entail. We soon found out decorating those little homemade cupcake soaps would be almost exactly like working with the real thing. So we looked around the web a bit for different ideas and ran across this little gem on using simple sandwich bags to do some neat butter cream roses on our soap cupcakes.

Florida Fresh Homemade Soap : Experimental Shea Butter Bar

Florida Fresh Homemade Soap : Experimental Shea Butter Bar

In this video we teach you how to make Florida Fresh Experimental Shea Butter Bar soap the homemade way–nothing to it. Just a few simple steps and you’re done; we pulled most of the recipe for this homemade soap from the book “The Soapmakers Companion”. This soap maker’s book can be found below in the details. Some other things we improvised to customize the homemade soap recipe to fit our style. We are complete novices to the world of soap making; we’re making these videos to share our learning experience with our viewers and maybe inspire some to join in and create soap along with us.

Our first homemade soap “learn while we learn video”

We decided late last afternoon to convert our soap making area into a ghetto video production lab and then record our first homemade soap making video. I think we did fairly well for first timers although I am pretty nerdy and read tutorials on, tinkered with and produced content for different companies over the years.

Remember we’re still pretty new to homemade soap making so hopefully the professionals will go easy on us. We recorded the video to give our social media fans a way to follow the bouncing ball of our successes and failures during our attempts with the homemade soap making process.

I’m currently working on editing the raw footage we recorded and getting it prepared to be uploaded. Once I’m happy with the results I’ll be putting it up on our YouTube homemade soap channel. Florida Fresh Homemade soap channel

Homemade : Butterscotch Brownies

Butterscotch Brownies. Wow, these sound great. Nothing like homemade brownies. I’ll have to keep my wits about me and remember not to place the pan too close to my brown colored soap. My throat burning out from lye would probably ruin my day.

We would like to welcome you to Florida Fresh Soaps, a family homemade soap venture!

Welcome!

My wife & I (like most) have had a pretty hard time these last few years, we tried a number of things to increase our income but nothing really preformed the way we needed it to. So we tossed around the idea of making home made soap, I got my tax return, we bought supplies, built our work area and arrived at the point in time we’re at now. A blog like this is the next step in our home based business venture. We’re looking to document our success and failure (mainly the latter) with the soap making business on this blog. You’re witnessing complete novices take a shot at business and soap making, enjoy the ride, we will.

A complete rundown of our first run at soap making.

We decided to play around with a few recipes we found for beginners in a book on soap making (I’ll put a link to the book in a bit. EDIT:  Homemade soap making book ) we had purchased.

Update:

Soapmakers companion

We have this same book we’re using available in our store for purchase.

Purchase the same book.

Homemade First Attempt Samples

A few different oils used between them, we also got a few unexpected color results. Like the purple should have been blue… but we’re not complaining.

Color / Scent / Shape

I. Purple / Berry Breeze / Oval
II. Pink / Lavender / Oval
III. Creme / Lemon / Square
IV.Pink / Lavender / Rectangle
V. Creme / Citrus Mist / Square
VI. Red / Civet / Rectangle
VII. Brown / French Vanilla, beeswax, honey / Square, Oval

Please be kind, it’s our first attempt. Any comments or criticism will be welcomed.

New to soap, but versed in web design/development.

I guess the last decade of underpaid web work wont hurt my chances in the SEO and design departments of this undertaking. I just spent the last hour tossing the header image seen above (as of this posting) together. I used an image I took a few years ago in Clearwater Beach, FL as the back drop, turned out nice to me and it’ll work for now. I’m not going to go nuts on customizing the design at the moment. I just couldn’t stand the look of a blank drab homemade soap blog.
